Roberson wins sheriff race
A two-and-a-half year campaign for sheriff ended Tuesday with Dave Roberson defeating Tom Caldwell by a large margin. Roberson won 24 out of 25 precincts and took 63.97% of the total vote. No Democrats qualified for Floyd County’s top law enforcement post, so Roberson will be the sole name on the ballot in November and will replace Burkhalter at the end of the year. Caldwell & Roberson to extend race for Floyd County sheriff
The long race to succeed Sheriff Tim Burkhalter will continue for another two months until the Primary Runoff on Aug. 11. When the final ballots were tabulated, Roberson led the way with 7,130 votes, equal to 48.1%. Caldwell received 5,079 votes, 34.3%, and Ronnie Kilgo took 2,598, which is 17.5%. Donations top $102,000 for Roberson as candidates approach runoff
